Mostly 9 cm square pots
Can be planted in a two or three litre pot.
Keep under cover to prevent water-logging if potted in autumn. Otherwise grow better
outside in a shade tunnel or windbreak area. Move to 5 or 7.5 litre after one season, for

Kalmias are very prone to fertiliser scorch but will
also die if no fertiliser given! Suggest a balanced liquid feed at every watering, rate
equivalent to 50ppm nitrogen. If controlled release fertilisers must be used, then no more
than 1Kg per cubic metre of compost. Good drainage essential: we use 50/50 peat and bark.
These plants are a challenge to grow and take several years to
reach flowering size.
